Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has put Gulf nations on notice, stating plainly that security and development are incompatible with allowing the United States and Israel to use their lands as war bases against Iran. The message was posted on X and has circulated widely across the region. It represents one of Tehran’s most direct public communications to its neighbors since the war began.
The conflict has been ongoing for more than a month, during which Gulf nations have become reluctant battlegrounds. Iran has launched retaliatory strikes inside Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, Oman, and Qatar following attacks on Iranian territory traced back to US operations at bases in those countries. The regional toll has been significant and growing.
Pezeshkian’s message reiterated Iran’s stated military doctrine of non-aggression combined with strong retaliation. He emphasized that hitting Iran’s infrastructure or economic centers will always trigger a response. His appeal to Gulf leaders was rooted in what he presented as a rational choice: expel foreign war operations and reclaim your security.
Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts have been gaining international recognition, with Prime Minister Sharif actively engaging both sides of the conflict. Pezeshkian confirmed during talks with Sharif that trust is an essential building block for any potential negotiations. Iran’s backing of Pakistan’s mediation efforts has given Islamabad additional credibility in the diplomatic process.
Pakistan is currently hosting a multilateral summit featuring foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Turkey, all focused on de-escalating the conflict in West Asia. Pakistan’s foreign minister Ishaq Dar is leading the discussions. Regional stakeholders and international observers alike are watching the talks for signs of a potential diplomatic breakthrough.
