Tom Holland has once again made history with Spider-Man, but this time it happened before the film even hit theatres. The trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day crossed one billion views — a first for any movie trailer in history. Released on March 17, it took just four days to reach a number that seemed unimaginable just months ago.

Brand New Day is the fourth MCU Spider-Man film, following the massive success of Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home. The story centers on a post-No Way Home world in which everyone has forgotten Peter Parker, including his girlfriend MJ and best friend Ned Leeds. Peter must protect New York from a new danger while finding his place in a world that no longer knows him.

WaveMetrix data confirmed the trailer crossed 1.1 billion total views by Tuesday. Its 24-hour total of 718.6 million views not only broke Deadpool & Wolverine’s record of 365 million but also shattered No Way Home’s previous trailer record of 355.5 million. GTA VI’s entertainment record of 475 million was surpassed by a wide margin as well.

What the numbers reveal is that Spider-Man has transcended superhero fandom and become a mainstream global phenomenon. The trailer’s emotional storyline, featuring a lonely Peter Parker reaching out to Bruce Banner for help, struck a chord with viewers worldwide. Creative fan responses online, including viral alternate titles for the film, show just how deeply the trailer resonated.

The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton with a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. It stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando, Tramell Tillman, and Mark Ruffalo. Brand New Day opens July 31 and releases in India in six languages across all premium formats.
