Authorities in Indonesia’s Cilacap District have initiated emergency response efforts following heavy rainfall that led to significant flooding and landslides in several villages. The Cilacap Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported ongoing flooding in the Maos and Kroya sub-districts as of Saturday morning, affecting residential areas, agricultural land, and roads.
In Maos, Mrenek Village experienced floodwaters reaching depths of 10 to 20 centimeters, while Karangreja Village saw flooding up to 50 centimeters. Although evacuations have not been necessary, local officials are preparing a public kitchen at the village hall to assist residents if conditions deteriorate.
In Kroya, the villages of Mujur Lor and Sikampuh reported flooding around 20 centimeters deep, impacting homes, shops, and a mosque. Efforts are underway to clear a tributary of the Silunjar River, obstructed by water hyacinth, to prevent further water flow restrictions and potential flooding escalation.
Flooding also affected Cilibang Village in Jeruklegi, where water inundated agricultural areas and encroached onto a main road, which remains passable for vehicles. Meanwhile, a landslide in Mandala Village, Jeruklegi, has prompted local authorities and disaster teams to initiate emergency operations to clear debris, with requests made for heavy equipment assistance.
The BPBD continues to monitor the situation closely, working with local authorities and relevant agencies to manage the response and mitigate further damage. The agency emphasizes the importance of ongoing vigilance as they coordinate efforts to tackle the aftermath of the heavy rains.
