Russian President Vladimir Putin has put forth a proposal aimed at enhancing economic collaboration among BRICS nations by suggesting the establishment of a joint insurance mechanism and a collaborative grain market. During the BRICS outreach session, Putin emphasized the importance of developing independent financial and trade systems to bolster the economic resilience of member countries against external pressures.
Putin advocated for the creation of independent channels to facilitate the movement of capital, labor, and technology among BRICS countries. He underscored the need for these nations to reduce their dependency on external systems, especially in light of ongoing Western sanctions impacting Russian energy exports. The European Union, G7, and the UK have placed restrictions on Western companies providing insurance services for vessels transporting Russian oil unless specific price-cap conditions are met.
In his address, Putin commended the New Development Bank, an initiative by BRICS countries, highlighting its role in strengthening financial cooperation among emerging economies. He called for a comprehensive approach to tackling global challenges, urging BRICS nations to address both immediate impacts and the root causes of international crises.
Furthermore, Putin emphasized the importance of collaboration among Global South countries in reforming global governance structures and addressing both traditional and emerging security threats. He noted that the increasing participation in BRICS signifies growing international interest in the group’s efforts to cultivate an independent perspective on global economic and political issues.
