During the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit held in New Delhi, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi jointly condemned terrorism and urged for stronger international measures against Pakistan-based militant groups, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). The leaders reiterated their dedication to tackling terrorism in every form and emphasized the necessity of accountability for those involved in terrorist activities.
Their joint statement included a denunciation of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam last year and referenced the United Nations Security Council Monitoring Team Report issued on July 29, 2025, which mentioned The Resistance Front (TRF). Modi and Takaichi called for unified global efforts against all UN-designated terrorist organizations like Al Qaeda, ISIS/Daesh, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, and their associated groups, condemning cross-border terrorism originating from Pakistan.
Additionally, the two leaders condemned the November 2025 Red Fort blast in New Delhi, urging swift justice for those involved in orchestrating, funding, and executing the attack. They stressed the importance of ongoing international collaboration to counter violent extremism and enhance global security against terrorist networks.
Beyond security concerns, the summit was an opportunity to expand the strategic and economic partnership between India and Japan. Modi warmly welcomed Takaichi on her first visit to India as Japan’s prime minister, praising her as a visionary leader and affectionately referring to her as his “younger sister.” He highlighted their countries’ historical and cultural connections, noting Takaichi’s roots in Nara Prefecture, a region linked to the shared Buddhist heritage of India and Japan.
Takaichi reciprocated Modi’s sentiments, emphasizing their mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral ties “as brother and sister.” Her visit, which took place from July 1 to 3 at Modi’s invitation, culminated in a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing cooperation across strategic, economic, and cultural domains. The summit underscored the enduring partnership between India and Japan, focusing on regional stability, security, and sustainable development.
