In a recent diplomatic mission, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyễn Minh Vũ spearheaded a delegation to the northeastern Cambodian provinces of Stung Treng and Kratie. The visit aimed to bolster cooperative efforts between Vietnamese regions and Cambodia, as well as to evaluate Vietnamese business operations and assess the living conditions of the Vietnamese-origin community in these areas.
Discussions with local Cambodian leaders centered around intensifying collaboration across various sectors including trade, agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and investment. Cambodian authorities underscored the increasingly strong relations with Vietnamese provinces, facilitated through cooperation agreements, business exchanges, and developmental initiatives. The province of Kratie particularly acknowledged the advancements made in both diplomatic and socio-economic spheres with Vietnam, citing infrastructure support and the collaborative projects focused on locating and repatriating the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who perished during wartime in Cambodia as significant milestones.
Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ commended the efforts of Vietnamese enterprises engaged in sectors like agriculture, mining, and rubber production within Cambodia. He noted that these ventures have contributed positively to local economic development and have reinforced the bilateral ties between the two nations. Meanwhile, in Stung Treng, local officials highlighted the region’s promising investment opportunities, particularly in high-tech agriculture and eco-tourism, encouraging further exploration by Vietnamese businesses.
Additionally, the ambassador engaged with representatives from the Vietnamese-origin community to address legal and livelihood concerns. He emphasized the importance of abiding by local regulations while fostering education and sustainable development within the community. Vietnam’s substantial investment footprint in Cambodia is evident, with over 200 projects and a total registered capital of approximately $3 billion, establishing Vietnam as one of the largest foreign investors in the country.
