Cambodia is intensifying its efforts to modernize its transport and logistics infrastructure as part of a strategic move to enhance trade competitiveness and bolster its position in regional and global supply chains. This initiative was a key focus at a recent Council of Ministers meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Hun Manet, where progress was reviewed on improving supply chains, trade routes, and transportation systems.
The government’s strategy is guided by the Comprehensive Master Plan on the Cambodian Intermodal Transport and Logistics System 2023–2033. This extensive plan encompasses multiple facets of transport infrastructure, including roads, railways, waterways, ports, aviation, logistics, and intermodal transport. In total, 174 projects have been identified for development, aiming to significantly reduce transit costs and improve connections between domestic markets and international trade corridors.
With a broader vision to support manufacturing and agro-processing, as well as to attract foreign investment, Cambodia seeks to leverage these infrastructure improvements to foster higher-value industries. This initiative is intended to reinforce the country’s role in regional and global trade networks, making it a more attractive destination for international business and investment.
The focus on enhancing logistics and transport systems comes at a pivotal time for Cambodia, as it looks to strengthen its economic resilience and expand its global trade footprint. By improving its infrastructure, Cambodia aims to not only increase its competitiveness but also ensure smoother and more cost-effective trade flows, benefiting its economy and stakeholders involved in the supply chain.
